February 2022
February 17th is the National Day of Kindness
World Kindness Day is the perfect opportunity to pause and reflect on what we mean when we talk about kindness. This small, simple word that we all know and use without thinking, carries such a weight of meaning.
Sometimes we get lost in a stressful life, but then a little kindness from others might raise our spirit.
Being kind, it's being selfless, caring, compassionate, and unconditionally. Like love, it takes practice to understand and feel it. We share the love with others through kind acts such as a smile, a nice word, an unexpected deed, or a planned surprise.
When we practice kindness either to other people or towards ourselves, we can experience positive mental and physical changes through lowering stress levels and increasing the body’s production of feel-good hormones such as dopamine, oxytocin, and serotonin. Being kind helps boost the immune system, reduce blood pressure, and reduce stress and anxiety.
The great thing is that it isn’t difficult to be kind. As the Dalai Lama said, ‘Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible ‘Everyone is kind in their own way. Every kind of deed counts in making this world a better place.

What our past Scholars said:
“I’m so grateful to have received the Major & Lakowski Families scholarship from the Polish American Congress. With the financial burden taken off my shoulders, I’ve been able to focus my attention on networking and studying my BBA at Western Michigan University. I’m in the process of establishing an International Polish Association here at Western to give the option for International Polish students to study here! Words can’t describe how much help this has been for my family and I.”
— Bart S.
“I am both thankful and honored to be awarded the Richard Gorecki Scholarship. I look forward to continuing my education at Union College and getting my B.A. in economics! This Scholarship will help me tremendously! Once again, thank you for making college possible for students of Polish heritage like me.”
